Dear
Friends
Following on from the Update of 4th
November, we have been alerted to a company
selling toy cats purportedly made from rabbit fur
by mail order and through the internet. We have
however serious grounds to believe that the fur
used is from either dogs or
cats.
This company, "Home Ideas",
operates throughout Europe. Their web site address
is http://www.walz-shopping.com/
- after selecting language/country click the tab
"Home Interiors" then click the " > " for page
2 for the "Cuddly Cat". Compare this with the
image at http://sirius.2kat.net on
the "Dogs for Fur"
page.
After phoning the UK branch and speaking
to someone who obviously had no knowledge of
the product in question, we e-mailed them for more
information. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the UK e-mail
address did not work. Since their German branch
has refused to reply to our urgent request for
their assurances that these products are not
made from cat/dog fur (sent on 27/11/03), we must
draw the obvious
conclusion.
Please write/phone/e-mail this company to
express your feelings about their
products.
Contact info can be found
through the national flags and then clicking the
"Data Protection" and "Contact" tabs at the base
of their site.
SAMPLE e-mail, but please write an original
if possible:
Dear
Sir/Madam
I was
outraged to learn that you are selling toy
cats that you claim are made from rabbit fur when
evidence indicates that these may in fact be
made from either dog or genuine cat fur.
Whilst I cannot condone the use of any animal fur
for such trinkets when there are man-made
alternatives available, the use of dog or cat fur
for such items is particularly sickening. Your
customers who purchase these products clearly
are animal lovers and certainly would
not buy such items were they aware of
the origin of the materials involved.
To sell
such items without clearly identifying the origins
of the fur used is a blatant and cynical
exploitation of the European people and will
hopefully be legally addressed by the EU as an
issue of consumer protection in the near
future.
Until such
time, I would ask you to either voluntarily
withdraw these items from your catalogue, or to at
least have the decency to clearly identify them
for what they are.
Sincerely
Name/Address/Country
.
Our continued thanks to all of you for your
support and for caring enough to try to make a
difference.
