Dear
Friends
It is interesting to note that
the South Korean press, once very vocal on the
subject of dog eating, have been very quiet in
recent months. Perhaps they think that if they
don't brag about their "culinary delights" we will
forget about them.
The following was sent to ITD
on 13th July and is a reminder of the barbaric
practices common within that
country.
Hey, I am currently
on assignment with the US Army in Korea. The
post I am at is surrounded by poor villages with
tiny shanties. In the morning while we are
running around the base, it is common to see
villagers outside the fence beating dogs with a
stick. The first time I saw this I
asked,"What is he doing?" and someone replied
"Tenderizing". The other day I was at the
airfield I work at and it was late in the
afternoon. Over the noise of a nearby
helicopter, I could hear the most terrifing and
horrid screaming I have heard in my
life. From a shanty across the airfield, a
dog had its fur set on fire by one of the
villagers. While the dog burned alive, the
villager waited until all of its fur was burnt off
before he shot it in the head. This was then
repeated four more times. I will never
forget that horrible sound. I had before
considered bringing my dog over from the states
along with my family and have since
reconsidered. "Distraut
Soldier"
It is important that we prove to the dog
and cat abusers that the maxim "out of sight, out
of mind" will never apply to the atrocities that
they inflict on trusting companion animals. Please
don't stop sending those protests. Sample emails
and target addresses are, as always, available on
our web site.
By now most of you will already have seen
the video broadcast to SBS Korea viewers recently.
Our thanks to IAKA/KAPS for bringing this to
everyone's attention. This video categorically
disproves the claims that only dogs specially bred
for meat end up on the dinner table. The video is
currently viewable at http://news.sbs.co.kr/society/society_NewsDetail.jhtml?news_id=N0311624915&gubun=1

Like all news stations, they will only host
this for a while. We have therefore uploaded it so
that it can always be seen through the ITD web
site (click on Videos on the
menu).
Scam
alert
We recently received an email from "the
Grace Foundation", claiming to be an animal
welfare charity in India requesting a "suggested"
donation of US$53090. This of course has nothing
to do with the genuine charity of this name that
provides for needy humans and is purely a scam.
The yahoo email address was a bit of a
give away. Please be cautious should you receive
any similar requests for donations from unknown
charities.
Our continued thanks to all of you for
caring.
