Alert to dog breeders and shelters
PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY

We have received some very troubling news from a breeder in the USA that anyone selling or re-homing dogs should be aware of, especially in the USA and Canada. Asian dog-brokers are attempting to acquire Samoyeds for export to Korea and China to be bred for their meat and skins.

Although all dogs are regarded as food in these countries, it seems that they are particularly interested in Samoyeds because of their pure white fur. The cruel fate awaiting these animals defies belief (please visit ITD re: Korea, and Sirius GAO re: China for sickening details). It would be preferable that dogs in need of re-homing were humanely killed in shelters than face torture and death in Asia, or even in the USA where we know that dog eating is practised amongst the Asian immigrant community.

Whether it is a pure-bred Samoyed wanted for its fur, or a humble cross-bred wanted for dinner, please don't allow these animals to fall into their hands! Although ITD is not racially biased, we are realistic enough to realise that the dog eaters and brokers are Asian. We know that there are many Asian dog lovers in the USA and Canada, but it is impossible to tell these apart from the brokers.

We beg you therefore not to allow ANY dog to be adopted by anyone of Asian descent unless you are ABSOLUTELY SURE of their intentions. This plea unfortunately must be made to breeders and shelters worldwide. If they can't get the Samoyeds from the USA or Canada, they will surely look elsewhere. Sirius GAO has evidence of Chinese attempts to import Saint Bernards from other countries.

Below is the email from the breeder in the USA.

"Many US and Canadian breeders have been inundated with emails/phone calls by Korean brokers wanting breeding age bitches. Lots of speculation as to why, but none of it is good.  I personally think they want to breed Samoyeds for their pelts.  One woman I know in Canada met a couple of these brokers at a show and of course told them she didn't have any bitches available. A couple days later, she and her husband arrived home to find one of the brokers in their yard. They threatened to call the police and he left, but came back the next morning. Her home is not easy to find so this guy really had to do some research to find it. Frightening!!!  I checked the SCA Breeder Referral Website and was relieved to find my street address is not listed! Unfortunately, many sites for free listings require this information and I can't remember all the ones I'm on. At least I'm in a low population area where there are few Sam breeders and not worth their effort to come here. It's unfortunate that those Asians who are truly fanciers of the breed will not get any quality breeding dogs because there is no way to tell the difference between them and these brokers."
